Non-Slip Pool Surrounds: Benefits of Luxapool® Poolside & Paving

Safety and Style Around the Pool

The pool surround is where people walk barefoot on wet surfaces, usually in a hurry. A non-slip coating there isn’t a design decision — it’s a safety one.

Luxapool® Poolside & Paving Paint is a water-based, decorative, P5 rated non-slip coating developed for swimming pool surrounds and decks. Fifteen colours, in 4L and 15L.

1. Traction When Wet

Wet paving is one of the most common places for a fall at home. Poolside & Paving gives grip underfoot while still feeling smooth rather than abrasive.

The P5 rating depends on application method. Colormaker specify build coats applied with a 10mm nap roller at approximately 2m² per litre. Apply it another way and you don’t get the rating.

Suited to:

  • Pool surrounds, decks and coping
  • Pebblecrete, concrete, paved and timber surrounds
  • Pathways and outdoor living areas
  • Disability ramps
  • Boat decks

It’s a pedestrian coating. Colormaker’s guides don’t cover vehicular traffic, so for driveways speak to us first. For commercial or industrial areas needing a more aggressive surface texture, Colormaker provide separate application details — get in touch and we’ll sort it out.

2. Built for the Conditions

Formulated for long-lasting resistance to UV, mould and fungal attack, and durable under high foot traffic and constant chlorinated splash-out.

Lighter colours — Surfmist, Classic Cream, Artic White, Merino — reflect more heat, which makes a real difference underfoot on a 38°C day.

3. Straightforward to Apply

Single pack, water-based, ready to use from the container. Stir before application to overcome settling.

Recoat times: 12 hours at 15°C, 8 hours at 25°C, 6 hours at 35°C. No maximum window, though best within 48 hours.

Foot traffic: 12 to 24 hours depending on surface.

Outdoor furniture: allow 14 days under good drying conditions at 25°C and 50% humidity. Longer in cooler or more humid weather. This one catches people out — the surface feels ready long before it is.

Note the weather rules too: don’t apply below 15°C ambient or above 35°C, and check a 7-day forecast — rain or sub-12°C temperatures within that week will compromise the job.

4. Coverage

Around 2m² per litre per coat — so a 15L tin covers about 30m² per coat, a 4L about 8m². Pebblecrete base coats use more again, at 1 to 1.5m² per litre.

That’s considerably heavier than ordinary paint. Measure the area and use the Pool Paint Calculator rather than guessing.

5. Fifteen Colours

Night Sky, Monument and Basalt at the dark end through to Surfmist, Artic White and Classic Cream, with Dune, Beachsand and Windspray in between. See them on the Poolside & Paving Colour Guide.

6. Surfaces and Priming

Bare or porous surfaces need Acrylmeric Superseal Primer first. A primer is always required unless you’re recoating a sound existing water-based coating.

For damp substrates or where waterproofing matters, Acrylmeric WB Epoxy Primer Membrane primes and waterproofs — and must be overcoated within 48 hours.

One Thing to Weigh Up

Unicryl® HD Clear Glaze gives a richer colour, more gloss and easier cleaning as a final coat — but it reduces anti-slip properties, and Colormaker don’t recommend a second coat of it on trafficable surfaces.

If slip resistance is why you’re doing the job, that’s a real trade-off. Worth a conversation before you add it.
