Marblesheen / Quartzon® | Yes (Luxapool Epoxy only) |
Chlorinated Rubber | Yes (Luxapool Chlorinated Rubber only) |

Can you paint epoxy over chlorinated rubber or vice versa?
No, you must use epoxy if the pool was previously painted with epoxy, and chlorinated rubber if it was previously painted with chlorinated rubber.
How do I test a previously painted pool to find out whether it can be overcoated with epoxy?
Rub the existing paint with acetone on a rag. If the paint softens and becomes sticky, it cannot be painted over with epoxy but may be coated with chlorinated rubber. If the acetone only removes some oxide and does not soften the paint, you can use epoxy. Test several areas to ensure all layers are the same.
How much paint will I need for my pool?
- We always recommend LUXAPOOL® Epoxy where possible for better performance, longer life, and a thicker finish.
- Allow extra material to account for surface roughness and wastage. We will refund any unopened & undamaged tins.

Is chlorinated rubber swimming pool paint flexible?
Although chlorinated rubber is more flexible than epoxy, it is still hard and glossy and should not be considered a flexible membrane.
My pool is leaking — will epoxy or chlorinated rubber bridge cracks?
No. If your pool has visible cracks, these must be properly repaired by a professional before painting.
Will my pool lift out of the ground or crack if I drain it?
Most pools are built with a hydrostatic valve in the deep end, which allows water in if ground water pressure is high. Usually ground water won’t come in unless the pool is in a low area, river bed or tidal zone. If water is entering through the valve, remove the top and fit a 1m PVC pipe over the outlet — the water will rise in the pipe until pressure equalises. Sometimes a simple weight (like a brick) will stop water coming in.
How long will the swimming pool paint last?
With proper preparation, application, and chemical/water control, Luxapool Epoxy should last 8–10 years for light colours (less for darker colours). Chlorinated Rubber should last 3–5 years for light colours (less for darker colours). Automatic cleaners like Kreepy Krawleys® or Barracudas® may reduce lifespan, especially on floors.
