Everything You Need to Know About Luxapool® Chlorinated Rubber Paints

Luxapool® Chlorinated Rubber Pool Paint is a single-pack, rubber-based pool coating specially designed for recoating pools that were originally painted with chlorinated rubber finishes. It delivers a smooth, flexible surface with strong resistance to saltwater, pool chemicals, and algae.

⚠️ Important Note: Chlorinated rubber should only be used if your pool has been previously coated with a chlorinated rubber paint. If you’re painting a bare concrete, fibreglass, or pebblecrete pool for the first time, epoxy is the better choice.

Key Features and Benefits

  • ✅ Easy single-pack formula — no mixing required
  • ✅ Great adhesion to previously painted chlorinated rubber pools
  • ✅ Flexible finish that resists cracking
  • ✅ Quicker recoat and drying time than epoxy
  • ✅ Available in a range of popular Luxapool® colours

When Should You Choose Chlorinated Rubber Paint?

This paint is ideal if:

  • Your pool already has a chlorinated rubber coating
  • You want a DIY-friendly solution with simpler preparation
  • You need a fast turnaround — less waiting before recoating or refilling

If you’re unsure what paint your pool currently has, you can perform a simple test: chip a small piece and rub with solvent (your pool professional can guide you).

  • If it softens or dissolves, it’s chlorinated rubber.
  • If it stays hard, it’s epoxy.

This quick test ensures you don’t apply the wrong coating — because epoxy cannot be applied over chlorinated rubber, and chlorinated rubber won’t adhere properly over epoxy.

Application Tips for Best Results

  • Surface Prep Matters: Clean thoroughly, remove any flaking paint, and ensure the surface is dry.
  • Use the Right Tools: Good brushes and rollers make application smoother. Check our Accessories collection for the best equipment.
  • Apply Two Coats: This ensures better coverage and long-lasting protection.
  • Mind the Weather: Apply in mild, dry conditions for the best curing.

How Long Does It Last?

While epoxy coatings can last up to 7–10 years, chlorinated rubber typically provides 3–5 years of protection before requiring a recoat. That makes it a great option for older pools that already have a chlorinated rubber base.

Still Not Sure Which Paint to Choose?

  • If your pool has never been painted before → choose epoxy.
  • If your pool is already chlorinated rubber-painted → stick with chlorinated rubber.
